About the role
The Subject Manager, English Language (EL Subject Manager) works within a team that is responsible for maintaining Trinity College London’s English Language qualification offer. The EL Subject Manager will regularly review key data about Trinity’s English Language qualifications (including its English Language tests and teacher qualifications) to ensure that the offer embodies leading practice in the industry and remains competitive.
The EL Subject Manager will bring to this role a solid grounding in English language teaching research and practice and will be committed to staying current with educational/ pedagogical research, academic research, and professional practice in English Language teaching and assessment. A key interface for members of the English Language Directorate is Trinity College London Press (TCLP). The EL Subject Manager will work closely with relevant team members in the creation and management of teacher- and learner-oriented content.
· Prepare and discuss with the English Language team, a quarterly report of qualification performance (enrolment trends, results trends, feedback from markets, post-results queries, validation results).
· Prepare and discuss with the English Language team, a monthly update on the competitive landscape for English language teaching and assessment.
· Address EL-specific queries as received from other co-ordinations, customers, markets etc.
· Manage special considerations requests.
· Work with TCLP to plan for and deliver new user content, ensuring academic sign-off at appropriate stages
· Collaborate with the English Language Technical Content Managers to analyse item and test performance from pre-testing and live administrations.
· Lead the writing and publication of annual exam reports.
· Maintain records of test validation and impact research.
· Support the English Language Technical Content Managers in item review and test compilation
· Collaborate with other Subject Managers to share and develop good practice across subject areas.
· Participate in validation and impact research and other special projects for the business as required.
About You
· A degree or equivalent in a relevant field
· English language teaching experience
· Ability to read and understand basic statistics used in assessment (such as, facility values, discrimination indices and rater-consistency measures) and a willingness to learn additional statistical analyses/techniques
· Efficient organisational and administrative abilities
· Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities
· A keen eye for detail
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Reflective and a proactive problem solver
· Experience in working collaboratively
· Confident in using the core Microsoft Office product suite
Whilst not essential, we will highly value:
· A postgraduate qualification in Applied Linguistics, English language, or TESOL
· Knowledge of and experience in the design and delivery of English language assessments and learning programmes
· Experience in digital learning and testing
· Experience in statistical software packages, customised database applications and virtual learning environments
