About IES Abroad

IES Abroad is a non-profit study abroad organization that administers study abroad programs for U.S. college-aged students. Founded in 1950, the organization now provides more than 130+ programs in 35 locations around the world and itsends approximately 6000 students to study abroad each year. IES Abroad has an Academic Consortium composed of over 235 academic institutions. It offers over $3 million in scholarships to help finance qualified students abroad. In accordance with its mission and vision statement, IES Abroad highlights cultural immersion through the use of homestays and field trips to promote the development of interculturally-competent leaders.

IES Abroad’s services include pre-departure advising, visa assistance, alumni mentors, and safety plans at Centers abroad. IES Abroad also offers an Internship abroad programme and has 14 IES Internships  locations around the world. IES Abroad Customized Programs works with college/university staff and faculty to build study abroad programs unique to that school.
The Study Abroad Foundation (SAF)

The Study Abroad Foundation (SAF) merged with IES Abroad in July 2017. The Study Abroad Foundation offers prestigious study abroad opportunities to university students enrolled at SAF member universities in China, Japan, Korea, and other select Asian countries. SAF programs are offered across 80 host colleges and universities in Australia, Canada, Europe, New Zealand and the United States, and give students the option to pursue traditional academic or language studies, complete an internship, or participate in personalized research programs.

Summary of position 

Reporting Lines: The University Relations Managers report to the Regional Office Manager and follow strategic direction from the Director of SAF China. They have no direct reports. 

Location: This position is based in Beijing or Shanghai with more than 50% regional travel seasonally. 

The University Relations Manager performs three primary functions: to recruit students to apply and attend SAF programs; to raise the profile and enrollment of SAF programs at Chinese partner universities; and to provide high quality service to SAF’s existing and potential partner universities.

The University Relations manager will manage on-going relationships with international offices, advisors, administrators, and faculty at Chinese university partners and will deepen relations with existing contacts and develop new contacts as appropriate throughout assigned universities. In consultation with the SAF China Director, the UR Manager will establish recruitment strategies for each institution with the objective of growing enrollment. They will serve as a creative strategist to develop new approaches for reaching targeted recruitment and college relations goals and will serve as analyst for enrollment in the region, including providing well-informed enrollment projections.

  • 3-5 years of experience in the field of study abroad or related experience in higher education preferred
  • High level of fluency in English – written, listening, and speaking
  • Proven track record in recruitment, sales, customer service, higher education admissions, or study abroad advising
  • Personal study abroad experience preferred
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and database literacy
  • Exceptional team player: proactive and responsible, with the ability to learn rapidly
