In terms of AECC’s centre of gravity, its most developed network of destination partnerships is in ANZ but it also has very significant footprints in the UK, Canada and the US. Key student recruitment markets have hitherto largely been in in South Asia and South-East Asia.

In spite of the pandemic, AECC announced significant expansion plans during the course of 2021 – the opening of 15 new offices, and the launch of a new course search platform. The latter represents the development of a new stream of business in digital recruitment, on the back of AECC’s earlier investment in a Digital Innovation Hub in Chennai, India, with some 70 staff.

AECC is therefore poised for further significant growth and diversification. As part of that plan, it is appointing a new Partnerships Director for Canada.

Role Purpose

The primary purpose of the role is to manage and grow AECC’s portfolio of destination partner colleges, universities and pathway providers in Canada. As much focus will be placed on deepening existing relationships as on identifying and converting new ones that will enhance the portfolio offering.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

1.     Take a senior positions with our client relations/ partnership team and manage the existing portfolio of partner institutions, deepening those relationships wherever possible, to help them diversify and grow their international student body

2.     Identify gaps in the current portfolio, in terms of programmes or destinations for which there is market demand

3.     Identify, develop and nurture relationships with decision makers at new, target institutions

4.     Articulate the AECC value proposition to all key stakeholders at a prospective partner institution

5.     Independently manage the pipeline of prospective partner institutions with the objective of onboarding new institution partners and engaging with existing partners

6.     Report on portfolio and pipeline updates to all key stakeholders across AECC Global

7.     Identify ‘at risk’ relationships, taking remedial action where appropriate

Person Specification

  • At least 5+ years’ experience of international higher education, either from a university international office or from a relevant commercial organisation
  • Strong network of decision-makers at international offices in Canadian universities
  • Acute commercial awareness of the prevailing trends within international student recruitment
  • Sophisticated relationship-builder able to align AECC with the partner objectives
  • Commercially driven but with a high level of integrity towards each university’s brand as well as individual student outcomes
  • At least 5 years’ sales or business development experience, ideally in securing partnerships with HE or other globally recruiting institutions
  • High level of expertise in cultivating relationships at decision-making level
  • High level of experience in managing a business development pipeline
  • Ability to close business development opportunities
  • Excellent communication, presentation and reporting skills
  • Educated to degree level

Other

While the position requires working from home, ideally candidates will either live in or close by one of the major Canadian study destinations, and will be able to travel easily throughout Canada. Some face-to-face contact is a key element of the role online and in person.
