Who are The Student Recruitment team?
The Student Recruitment team is tasked with developing and implementing the University's student recruitment strategy. Focusing on ambitious targets for growth in the University’s student numbers, the team promotes Heriot-Watt University to prospective students, teachers, parents, partner institutions and other key stakeholders.
Working in a competitive environment, we deliver a highly-targeted range of recruitment activities which focus on the awareness end of the prospect journey – generating high quality, convertible leads and working in partnership with the Marketing team, Prospect Experience & Conversion team and colleagues in Academic Schools to nurture and take prospects to point of enrolment. Data and evidence constantly informs our targeting and resource allocation decisions to ensure that we provide an efficient and effective service to prospects at all times.

Post of Pakistan In-Country Representative
This new key role is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of student recruitment from Pakistan for Heriot-Watt University. Based in Pakistan, you will assisting our highly targeted range of recruitment activities and be accountable for ambitious targets for undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment for all Heriot-Watt University campuses.
You will coordinate engagement with the University’s Academic Schools and other Professional Services supporting recruitment in Pakistan as one of the institution’s primary recruitment markets.

The post-holder will work closely with teams in the following areas to optimise delivery and results:

  • Prospect Journey & Conversion Team: Enquiries management, Admissions, CRM
  • Marketing: Brand, web Presence, marketing collateral, events
  • Academic schools: Portfolio training, events, marketing tools
  • International Operations: Portfolio and product training, agents, scholarships
  • Alumni relations: Utilising alumni as advocates to assist with recruitment
  • International Development: University Partnerships, articulation pathways
  • International Student Support Visa support, campus welcome, wellbeing

Profile of Role Holder
You will have exceptional knowledge of University sector challenges and opportunities in relation to Pakistani Student Recruitment, which you will keep constantly updated.
You will be expected to act as an ambassador for Heriot-Watt University, notably with key Pakistani stakeholders including agents, school counsellors, prospect students and parents.
You will report to and will be supported by the University’s regional team based on Dubai but are expected to be a self-starter and able to work independently for extended periods. As the post is based in Pakistan it is imperative that you can work with minimal supervision and using initiative at all times. You will also have excellent communication skills and be adept at using digital and social media platforms. You will keep in constant touch with colleagues in the University, notably in the Marketing, Admissions Recruitment and Communications team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the regional team in designing and delivering a carefully researched, ambitious and clear student recruitment strategy for Pakistan that reflects the requirements of the institution across all Schools and Campuses.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute a carefully researched, data-informed programme of external visits to Pakistani Universities, Colleges, Schools and recruitment events.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Communications Directorate to ensure Pakistan recruitment activities effectively and clearly link to the broader institutional recruitment and marketing strategy and operational activities.
  • Assist the regional team through the student credibility checks during peak recruitment periods
  • From time to time assist other departments including admissions especially during peak recruitment periods
  • Link to the Development & Alumni team to ensure optimum use is made of the University’s extensive alumni network in Pakistan in supporting student recruitment activities
  • Ensure the University’s activities in Pakistan are fully compliant with legal and regulatory requirements. This notably includes employment law.
  • Lead the coordination of inward visits to Pakistan by University staff.
  • Travel regularly to the University’s campuses to develop and maintain excellent working relationships.
  • Ensure portfolio and product knowledge is comprehensive and regularly updated.
  • Regularly horizon scan on competitor activity and market opportunities and ensure the University’s recruitment activities reflects best practice in the sector.
  • Any other occasional duties assigned by the Regional Recruitment Director.

Essential

  • Educated to first degree level or equivalent
  • Typically, three or more years of experience in student recruitment, sales, business development, or related experience
  • Due to the nature of the contract, you are expected to be self-employed with the relevant evidence to right to work in Pakistan as self-employed or sole proprietor.
  • Demonstrable experience as a self-starter able to work remotely and under minimal supervision
  • Detailed and expert knowledge of the Pakistani higher education recruitment sector
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing key clients
  • Be able to use Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems
  • Ability to work within a complex and fast-changing environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent influencing skills with good track record of developing and maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external customers, peers, stakeholders and others
  • Flexible and resilient
  • The post-holder must be able to comply with Pakistani visa and legal requirements to fulfil this role
  • Must be willing to spend extended periods away from home to fulfil the requirements of the post

 

Desirable

  • Chartered Member of relevant Professional Body – e.g. Chartered Institute of Marketing
  • Previous Experience of working for an International University in Pakistan

Reporting to: Regional Recruitment Manager (MENA and Pakistan who is based on the Dubai campus)
