About the role:

University Partnerships at Leap builds relationships with institutions of higher education around the world for two primary purposes:

1) identifying opportunities to utilise universities as a marketing channel for our direct to student business, and

2) establishing direct business-to-institution (B2I) partnerships through the development and support of educational programs serving our student population

The Director of University Partnerships is a new role responsible for growing the network of universities with which Leap works, primarily in the B2I partnership realm. Primarily a business development function, this person will play a key role in identifying university stakeholders, building relationships with them, and executing an effective sales strategy to close new partnerships.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Owning all aspects of the sales cycle from lead generation through contract. Your day to day will involve traditional sales tactics to hunt new opportunities and drive them to close.

1) Research new potential partners by completing needs analyses and developing suitable solutions

2) Initiate outreach to new potential partners and drive engagement, follow up, and additional stakeholder engagement as needed to get to contract close

Managing a high volume outreach strategy while establishing and maintaining great relationships. While your daily activities will drive to execution, your relationships will feed our longer pipeline of future opportunities.

1) Identify and engage with prospects at various levels across respective universities (Chair, Dean, VP/Provost of Global Education, International Student Office, Admissions/Enrollment)

2) Crystalize the process and timeline around an aggressively achievable sales cycle, with a specific performance metric of new contracts signed vs business plan forecasts


Informing broader strategy within University Relations and at Leap overall through feedback and collaboration. Your insights will directly contribute to the strategic direction of the department and company as we continue to grow.

1) Partner with the VP of University Relations and provide feedback from the field to inform our larger university outreach strategy that includes other lines of business within Leap

2) Collaborate with other teams within Leap, specifically the partnerships operations team, to ensure alignment on both strategy and execution of program partnerships


You have:

● 5-7 years experience in a business development role, ideally within higher education. More importantly, you have a deep understanding of and experience with higher education, such that you can quickly gain credibility with university campus decision makers. Understanding of the needs and nuances of international student populations is particularly beneficial.

● Experience with, and the stamina for, long-cycle sales. You particularly understand how to drive against sales timelines and targets while also balancing the needs and realities of individual target client constraints.

● The instinct to know when to bring in the appropriate stakeholders at the appropriate time, both internally and externally. You have an instinct for understanding the motivators and desired outcomes of your stakeholders, adapting your approach accordingly.

● Willingness to work in a fast-paced, evolving early-stage environment. You are comfortable with the fluidity that comes with a startup environment, and you are excited by the idea of working in the intersection of cultures.

● Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, domestically and possibly internationally as needed. Given the current environment, you also bring an instinct of knowing when meetings should take place virtually versus in person.

● Bachelors degree required, Masters ideal. More importantly, you need to bring the background and credentials to have credibility with our higher education audience.
