Who are Spires? 


Spires is a global online tutoring platform that connects students with tutors in a simple and efficient manner. Running in the browser, it works on any device, anywhere in the world. Students are able to find qualified, experienced professional tutors. The platform handles the process of searching for a tutor, having classes and making payments, almost eliminating the administrative burden for tutors. Spires continues to be an innovative EdTech platform that continues to grow and develop. We are now looking to build on our phenomenal growth and expand our team.


What are we looking for?


There will be two main aspects to the role, the first will be to assist with the onboarding and monitoring of tutors on the platform. This will involve sorting through applications, interviewing tutors, bringing them onto the platform and guiding them through the process. There will also be an element of monitoring their actions, and ensuring that they are remaining compliant with the terms of the platform. 


The other part of the role will involve administrative duties to ensure the platform runs smoothly and continues to operate without issue. This will involve answering queries from users through our messaging system and other administrative tasks. These tasks can change with time, as we aim to automate many functions of the platform, so old tasks can disappear and new ones can be added.


Your day-to-day will be a mixture of client management and administration. Once you’ve got to grips with the basics and feel comfortable in the role there will also be opportunities to work with the wider team to help develop our systems to make sure we are always working in the most efficient and effective way.

You also have:

Experience working in a fast paced environment and are comfortable with weekly, monthly and annual targets, for you personally and for the team you work within.

Outstanding organisational skills and an ability to manage your own workload and time effectively
Experience of working in education and with the education system in the UK as a minimum.

Other countries would be an added bonus. 

A university degree in a STEM subject

High levels of interpersonal skills, especially empathy and patience.

Experience using a CRM or tech savvy and comfortable with new software

Preferably, previous experience as a private tutor or working for companies in this space


Important information to know

Hours: Our core hours are Monday - Friday 9:00-18:00, however ideally once trained, you will be able to swap Fridays for a Saturday, and instead take interviews a little later in the evenings. This is open to discussion for the right person. 

Location: Our office is currently in LABS Holborn, close to Holborn Station. This role will be a hybrid of in-office and working from home. In your first few weeks you’ll need to be in full time and after you have been onboarded we would ask you to come into the office 2 days per week, with room for the role to be mostly remote. There will be events, training sessions and workshops to attend. 

Salary & Benefits: £24-30K Plus OTE (to be negotiated),  20 days holiday (plus bank holidays) with a chance to earn more throughout the year, inclusion in the Company Pension Plan and ongoing training opportunities.

Spires is part of a group of Edtech startups, based in a beautiful LABS Hogarth House (Holborn) office. Throughout the year we arrange various socials for our team to celebrate hitting targets, work anniversaries or birthdays. Some of our more recent social events have been karaoke, rooftop croquet at Skyline, Swingers Crazy Golf and Trampoline Dodgeball! In addition to this, our office comes with a gym (free to use), games room, in-house barista, free weekly breakfasts and has its own events team that organises weekly events for the whole building which range from pilates classes to evening social drinks.
