The University of Tasmania is seeking a Country Director, India who will be responsible for proactively developing and advancing the University’s student recruitment strategy for India and leading a team of staff based in country to achieve annual international student recruitment performance targets. The position will manage partnerships, connections and opportunities with key institutions and agencies in country and provide expertise and strategic analysis on the India market.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee all aspects of student recruitment activity in India including business development, operations, advertising/marketing coordination, liaison with education agents, and creating productive connections between international agents, partners, government and industry stakeholders and other University stakeholders.
- Maintain ownership of and accountability for the operational recruitment plan and delivery of revenue KPIs for India, ensuring alignment to the University’s strategic priorities and international strategy.
- Provide strategic advice, intelligence, and analysis, grounded in local knowledge and cultural and political understanding. Produce high quality reports and briefings on local developments to ensure the University is well placed to seize strategic opportunities and manage risk.
- Serve as a key representative and point of contact for India, establish and manage partnerships with key agencies, institutions, and networks. Develop and maintain relationships with key national partners and institutions, including academic, industry, philanthropic and commercial partners, foreign governments, and organisations.
- Liaise regularly with Colleges Schools, and professional services to identify, track and connect priority areas of activity. Act as a senior point of contact for the region, for staff across the University and external parties.
- Participate actively in strategic partnership projects, providing senior support for key aspects of project development and bringing regional expertise and knowledge direct to strategic partnership discussions.
- Manage staff and workload in India and provide appropriate information, instruction, training, and supervision.
What We’re Looking For (success criteria)
- A tertiary level degree in a relevant field and/or relevant work experience in a senior position within sales and marketing in higher education or similar institution with demonstrated success in international student recruitment.
- Experience and skills in people and budget management.
- Detailed knowledge and experience of international higher education/partnerships in India.
- Ability to set and meet targets/KPIs in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, public relations and communications skills in a cross-cultural context.
- Demonstrated experience building effective relationships with a wide range of people, including international students, education agents, university academic and administrative staff and staff of international agencies, institutions, and government organisations.
- Well-developed sales territory or country management and planning skills, organizational skills, and the capacity to think and solve problems independently and to prioritise and progress multiple tasks concurrently.
- An awareness and sensitivity to the special needs and aspirations of students from developing countries and those from differing cultural, economic, and social backgrounds.
- Experience in developing appropriate marketing and recruitment strategies and tools (both hard copy and web based) excellent report writing and other public relations and presentation skills.
- A comprehensive knowledge of the Australian tertiary education sector as well as a good working knowledge of international education, including recent developments and trends.
