School of Business and Economics
The Maastricht University School of Business and Economics (SBE) provides high-quality education to students and conducts excellent research, offering an international perspective in the fields of economics and international business administration. SBE is home to over 4200 students and 570 staff, around 40% of whom come from abroad. SBE’s approach revolves around small-scale teaching methods supported by an electronic learning environment, a portfolio of international study programmes, and strong incentives for top-quality research. The focus lies on educational innovation. All degree programmes make use of Problem-Based Learning, with an emphasis on skills development – problem solving, group work and self-directed learning – to prepare students optimally for the European and international knowledge society. SBE is Triple Crown accredited (AACSB, Equis and AMBA) and is, with around 140 partner universities all over the world, highly internationally oriented.


The Marketing & Communications (M&C) department at the School of Business and Economics develops and carries out M&C activities in keeping with the objectives formulated for undergraduate, graduate and executive education as well as research conducted under the auspices of the various departments and institutes and the Graduate School of Business and Economics (GSBE).

The team within the school consists of six persons, of which two are responsible for the external and internal communications. There is a close cooperation with the shared Marketing & Communications department and other departments within the faculty.

The Communications Adviser is responsible for the development and successful execution and evaluation of communication plans and activities that contribute to the faculty strategic goals and targets. There is a clear focus on the development of online communication and instruments. Next to the communication towards future students, research communications is seen as an important area in order to realise a positive public profile of the School and the University.   

The Communications Adviser reports to the head of the M&C department.

Objective of the job

  • Co-development of communications-related sections of the faculty’s external relations plans (e.g. corporate relations, research/education partners, alumni, press).
  • Development of internal and external communications-related content (text, photos, video, etc.) for online and offline materials.
  • Evaluation of internal and external communications activities and initiatives using quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Provision of advice to faculty members on internal and external communications.
  • Participating actively as a member of UM-wide tactical corporate communication groups
  • Producing and giving internal and external communications-related presentations (e.g. to staff, students, external partners).

What do we expect?

  • At least 3 years’ experience in a similar position, experience in research communication is an advantage.

We offer an appointment for one year. In case of good performance and equal prospects for the faculty, extension of the appointment can be offered.

The gross monthly salary varies between € 2.709,00 and € 3.722,00. These amounts are based on a fulltime appointment. The salary in this 0.8 fte appointment will depend on education and relevant working experience, based on salary scale 9 of the CAO NU, with a possible growth to scale 10 over time.

Dienstverband: Tijdelijk, One year. In case of good performance and equal prospects for the faculty, extension of the appointment can be offered.
