Reporting into the Head of Client Partnerships, International, UK & Ireland, the successful the candidate will not only have management and individual client responsibilities, but they also will be expected to participate in team strategy, building capability and best practice.

The Client Director will lead a team of Client Executives, Client Managers & Senior Client Managers to deliver against the core business objectives of revenue growth and increasing client satisfaction.

The Client Director will support and coach their direct reports, advising on the best approach for clients. The Client Director will also manage their own client list having sole responsibility for a small set of key clients.

Revenue line items include:

  • Digital marketing, data and insights – measured through orders taken.
  • Student placement revenue – measured through marginal commission based on existing enrolment figures. This will be delivered through new client acquisition in line with network demand, contract upsells and removal of contract exclusions.

The individual will liaise with other internal teams and the wider IDP network to deliver the very best results for clients, to facilitate student placements, advertising order growth and client satisfaction. An important part of this liaison is supporting effective client team engagement and communication.
This client director role has ownership of the student placement projects and will lead our market strategy in this area with the Head of Client Partnerships.


  • A deputy to the Head of Client Partnerships, International, UK & Europe, you will inform and support the implementation of the client and commercial strategy.


  • Direct management of up to three members of staff supporting their day-to-day work and ensuring the team is fully trained in new and existing products, their clients and the sector.
  • Support proactive and effective communication channels with other client teams
  • globally, through online, video and face-to-face updates.

Operational delivery:

  • Negotiate large commercial contracts with Universities, building trusted partnerships
  • across all products and services:
  • Data and Insights.
  • Digital marketing
  • Student placement, in line with demand from source markets.

Liaise with clients and delivery teams to ensure client goals are met:

  • Data, Insights and digital marketing teams (London).
  • IDP network countries – to create compelling and sustainable relationships
  • between clients and network countries, with high engagement. To ensure awareness across the network and necessary information for counsellors to be effective.
  • Provide accurate reporting of the sales pipeline and revenue forecasting, including input into the systems and processes used across all markets.
  • Ensure the operating model is delivered by the team. The operating model will be defined by the client partnership team with delivery teams, the IDP network and agreed by IDP GLT members.
  • Ensure all administrative activities are completed in a timely manner. This includes capturing key client data to support effective follow-up activities and analysis to manage individual pipeline and forecasts.

External relations:

  • Identify key stakeholders and decision-makers in existing and target client organisations, building trusted relationships to deliver an effective and high-quality client experience.
  • Represent the company at sector events and with industry organisations.

Strategic input:

  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement and realise the benefit of such opportunities by advocating new ways of working.
  • Plan and deliver project activity in line with business needs.

Network liaison:

Responsibility for specific IDP regions and liaison with destination managers and other key team members. This requires partnership with the identified network country with a view to both enhancing understanding of that country among the destination team, as well as proving insights to the network country.

  • At least 5 years’ experience working within the education, market research or tech sectors.
  • Exceptional understanding of education digital marketing and student recruitment.
  • Experience of working in a disruptive commercial environment.
  • Not afraid to be bold, curious and challenge assumptions.
  • Proven ability to establish and grow strategic client relationships with outstanding client feedback and successful of multi-year contract negotiations.
  • Understanding of the importance of data and evidence of using data to inform strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrable ability to assimilate technical, commercial and analytical information to form compelling solutions.
  • Detail-driven, allowing for the composition and communication of sophisticated business proposals and campaign reporting.
  • Strong negotiating ability and excellent communication skills across all methods.
  • Sound judgement and ability to make decisions and act in the best interests of the
  • Proven ability to recommend tactical plans, influencing internal stakeholders to
    maximise returns for clients.
  • Evidence of effective work as an internal and external brand ambassador.
  • Sound IT skills.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK throughout the year and overseas 2-3 times a
  • Preferable experience of leading a team and/or key projects, training and supporting
    others through ongoing development.
