JOB SUMMARY:

 

Reporting to a Director at the Office of Global Services (OGS), the Associate Director of Academic Services and International Student Support leads the planning and execution of a wide range of programs that provide services to international students at Northeastern University.  Collaborate with campus stakeholders, OGS managers and team members to develop, design, and implement programs and infrastructures needed to support and enrich the international student experience at Northeastern. Lead the planning and implementation of international student orientation programs with special attention to the unique needs of international students at regional campuses. Design, implement, and oversee academic support services for international students including but not limited to the Global Mentor program, academic skills advising, and other student success initiatives.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of international student services, F/J visa and advising. An exceptional level of organizational skills, attention to details, analytical capabilities, and a positive problem- solving outlook. High level of interpersonal and communication skills.  Extensive cross-cultural experience. Knowledge and skills required are normally obtained through a master’s degree in Education, Student development, Counseling, or a relevant discipline plus at least three to five years of formal experience in international student services and F/J visa advising, including supervising professional staff as well as at least two years’ experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

1) Lead and execute the programs to provide transformational experiences for international students. Provide leadership role in the development of initiatives to support international students at all campuses. 

 

2) Plan and implement Orientation sessions, co-curricular engagement, and academic support services. Contribute to inter-campus mobility of international students. Collaborate with campus stakeholders and student organizations to provide an excellent international student experience. Conduct regular assessment of programs and services to continually improve offerings. 

 

3) SEVIS Compliance & Immigration Advising. Ensure that programs and services are based on maintenance of status requirements for international students. 

 

4) Supervision of staff (program managers) and student staff. 

 

5) Projects, special assignments and ad hoc work. 
 

Required:

·        Master’s degree in Education, Student development, Counseling, or a relevant discipline.

·        Three to five years of formal experience in international student services and F/J visa advising.

·        Three to five years’ experience supervising professional staff.

·        Two years’ experience serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).

·        An exceptional level of organizational skills, attention to details, analytical capabilities, and a positive problem- solving outlook.

·        High level of interpersonal and communication skills.

·        Extensive cross-cultural experience.

Desired:

·        Doctorate in a relevant discipline.

·        Teaching experience.

·        Proficiency in intercultural relations issues and strategies.

·        Experience living or working abroad.

·        Fluency in multiple languages.

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in order to serve as DSO/ARO.
