The USC International Academy, located on the University of Southern California University Park Campus in Downtown Los Angeles, provides university-quality, skill-based, English as a Second Language instruction.  Students receive 20 hours of classroom instruction each week in interactive, student-focused classes taught by experienced instructors. Through a rigorous program of study, campus involvement, and cultural and educational activities, Academy students develop comprehensive English language skills and are fully immersed in American university life at a top-tier institution. The majority of Academy’s students transition into degree programs at USC or other institutions.

The USC International Academy is seeking an experienced Academic Director that will be instrumental in contributing to raising the bar on academic initiatives. The successful candidate will have strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and a high desire to succeed in a growing and dynamic organization. In addition, the Academic Director will manage a team of approximately 40 instructors, providing oversight on academic policies and continuous curriculum development, and cultivating a culture of academic excellence.

 

Key Areas of Focus:

  • Provide day-to-day academic leadership and effectively manage academic office and support staff
  • Formulate academic policies concerning academic programs and processes, and provide curriculum feedback and guidance to instructors
  • Cultivate a diverse and multicultural environment that supports and enhances students’ academic experience and diffuse difficult situations with students
  • Standardize teacher training and development, including an emphasis on classroom and program-level assessment, technology-enhancing learning, teaching methodology, and curriculum development
  • Collaborate and develop excellent relationships with colleagues based at the main campus as well as foreign offices to support target outreach and program initiatives
  • Ability to teach coursework when necessary, model best practices in language instructional pedagogy, and develop short-term customized English language programs
  • Effectively utilize various software and work collaboratively with the IT team on process and record enhancement projects
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESL/TEFL/TESOL, or a master's degree in a related field with documented coursework for credit in the areas of linguistics, culture and society, educational foundations, second-language pedagogy, second-language assessment, and language teaching practicum
  • Experience with revenue-driven program development
  • Experience in teacher supervision and personnel management (teams and individuals) at a large IEP
  • Experience in management and curriculum development for pathway program with conditional admissions
  • Foreign language ability
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and meet deadlines
  • Computer literacy
