Job overview

We are currently looking for a Head of Marketing who will supervise our global marketing activities and teams across Barcelona (Spain) and Montreux (Switzerland). This role will be based in Barcelona.

In this exciting role your main goal will be to define the global marketing strategy for ESL and execute it with excellence. You will lead and develop the team members, actively evolve the structure for it to be fit for purpose and aligned to the growth ambitions of the business. You will also be the guardian of the ESL brand. As an active member of the ESL leadership team, you will work to deliver the long-term vision, as well as yearly sales and profit budgets.


Main tasks:

Strategic responsibilities

  • Define the global ESL Brand strategy
  • Develop yearly marketing activity and communication plans based on the approved strategy
  • Develop the structure of the marketing team in line with current and future plans
  • Be a proactive and strategic member of the ESL leadership team and closely work together with the other Heads to achieve the overall objectives of the company
  • Lead key market research projects and analyse and present recommendations for the business
  • Lead consumer and market intelligence activities: continuous market and trend checks and competitive analysis
  • Propose new ideas and improvements to the client relationship management process
  • Be responsible both for the definition and control of the global yearly marketing budgets
  • Define and control the local marketing budgets by country in close collaboration with the regional managers
  • Lead or participate in key strategic projects with a broader management scope than marketing on an ad-hoc basis

Operational responsibilities

  • Manage the marketing team and ensure their personal development and the retention of key talent
  • Lead the concept development and guide the execution of all different marketing mix elements as defined in the yearly marketing plan
  • Lead the creation and production of all local marketing and promotional materials in line with the global brand positioning of ESL
  • Manage the marketing campaigns (online/offline) including advertising, consumer PR, social media, SEO, SEM, content management, blogging, videos and fairs.
  • Support the regional managers and country teams in the development and implementation of local marketing activities and make sure their implementation is in line with the global strategy and within the agreed budgets
  • Continuously track and evaluate campaign results
  • Build excellent relationships with key external marketing agency partners whilst ensuring and negotiating maximum marketing ROI


Your experience:

  • You possess a master’s degree in marketing and/or communication or have acquired an academic thinking level through working experience
  • You have more than 10 years’ marketing experience in branded environments with a proven ability to manage and develop teams   
  • You are a strategic marketer with strong proven international experience and an all-round marketer with experience in both brand creation and activation with a strong ability to think 360
  • You have extensive experience in online marketing and/or e-commerce (as well as offline knowledge)


 Your professional skills:

  • You are a strategic thinker that has a great ability to translate strategies in 360 activity plans
  • You possess strong analytical skills
  • You are a true brand marketer and have hands-on experience with strategic (re)positioning of global brands
  • You have good eye for talent and a proven ability to develop people and manage teams across different locations
  • Excellent communicator, you are good team player with a highly collaborative management style
  • You are entrepreneurial and flexible, with a multicultural commercial mind-set
  • You master the use of Excel and PowerPoint
  • You are a fluent English speaker. In addition to this a very good level of Spanish or French is considered a big plus; any other languages (German, Italian, Spanish or other) are considered a plus

  • You have a proven passion for languages and travel as part of your professional or personal life
  • You have a high personal interest in online marketing and keep abreast of all the latest trends on online and social media
  • You have willingness to travel regularly to Montreux or other ESL locations
