For young people, teachers, group leaders and parents, PGL is the UK’s leading outdoor education provider, delivering inspirational learning through adventure. We are currently looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to build on our expanding South American market and increase PGL’s inbound International business from the area.

The main objective will be to build relationships with new and existing overseas agents in order to sell a range of PGL products to fill beds at PGL centres during low season periods when fewer schools travel.

This role is an exciting opportunity for an individual to play a key part in the further growth of the International business. This role has a strong emphasis on negotiating contracts and promoting PGL products with agents, ground handling operators and international schools, in a competitive environment where providing a high level of customer service of the utmost importance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing a network of reliable agents in South & Central America;
  • Selling a variety of PGL products in these countries, in particular UK excursion-based tours to the youth market, junior EFL programmes and fully supported unaccompanied child packages via direct sales and agents;
  • Attending exhibitions, trade fairs, conferences and familiarisation trips in relevant countries as and when required;
  • Preparing written quotes, agent agreements and information for customers to support the sale;
  • Hosting agent site tours and preview visits to PGL centres;
  • Working with Head Office and Centre operational teams to define customer requirement;
  • Providing feedback on customer expectations to develop new products;
  • Securing repeat business and managing key account relationships once established;
  • Monitoring competitor and market developments.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in sales in the inbound language business and have operational experience in language schools. They will have carried out a similar role for another operator and ideally have a good knowledge of the South American market and agents that PGL would be interested in working with. 

A flexible working approach will be required with the opportunity for extensive travel abroad and in the UK. A good working knowledge of second language such as French, Spanish or Italian would be a bonus, but not essential. The successful applicant can be either field or office-based. We are happy to consider either a part-time or full-time role which will be commission based in addition to the basic salary.
