A fantastic opportunity to take a lead role in defining and driving forwards continued growth within a dynamic, independent language school, that delivers international education services to hundreds of students a year from as many as 50 countries worldwide.

On the back of significant growth in 2017, Bristol Language Centre is now focused on a 2-year growth strategy which will see the business continue to strengthen its relationships with international agents and partners in established markets, as well as targeting growth in developing international markets and forging exciting new business-to-business relationships.

As Business Development Manager, you will work directly with the Director to shape and define the target growth opportunities for the business and have lead responsibility for driving business development in the target markets in line with the 2-year growth plan.

What you will be doing…

Relationship management - Actively building and maintaining relationships with existing international agents and partners to maximise the value of these relationships
Market strategy - drafting and agreeing the key Market Action Plans with the Director and ensuring they are implemented.
New business development - Identifying and building new partner/agent relationships in key targeted growth markets generating new business sales
B2B growth – building and growing the Business English programme, targeting sales in key business sectors and territories.
New product development – taking a lead role in project managing the development of new products and services, such as online/distance learning, coordinating resources and activities across all teams to bring to fruition.
Acting as a key external face to the business, attending business networking events, industry functions, such as association events and international agent workshops, and providing feedback and information on market insights and trends.
Developing strong relationships with key international development organisations, such as Department for International Trade
Responsibilities and Duties

1. Actively manage relationships with key existing partners and international agents:

Understand existing value by agent/partner
Review and identify potential additional value available (unmet demand)
Focus on activities required by Centre to convert the additional opportunity available
Build and maintain the ongoing relationship to ensure value is retained


2. Business Development planning:

Attend industry functions, such as association events and international agent workshops, and provide feedback and information on market trends.
Present business trends with a view to developing new services, products, and distribution channels.
Identify opportunities for campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
Using knowledge of the market and competitors, identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators.
Work with the Director to identify, define and agree target markets and territories to focus new business development activities
Undertake market research of target territories to identify growth potential and best opportunities aligned to Centre capabilities; review competition; assess relative strengths and weaknesses and target key contacts. Draw on support from external agencies such as DiT to inform research and plans
Develop Market Action Plans to set business development strategies, goals and tactics for each target market.


3. Deliver new sales in key growth markets:

Identify key partner relationships within target markets including agents, sponsoring bodies, schools
Identify key decision makers within the prospect organization.
Develop and deliver marketing campaigns to raise awareness, generate interest and enquiries
Identify and target key oversees events to build visibility within the target markets
Attend meetings to establish and build new relationships and build sales in new regions
Plan approaches and pitches, drawing on key differentiators of the Centre and value proposition


4. Build corporate sales

Identify target business sectors / markets where demand for Business English strongly aligns to the Centre capabilities and strengths
Develop target prospect lists of business and organisations within each target sector
Develop and deliver marketing campaigns to raise awareness, generate interest and enquiries
Attend meetings to establish and build new relationships and build sales in new regions


5. Product development

Take an active role in the development of new products and services including online/distance learning products
Identify sales potential, through research into target markets
Undertake market research into competitor products and services
Project manage implementation activities internally to bring new products and services to market
Review pricing strategies for new products and services
Lead the sales effort to promote the new products and services and cross-sell to existing / previous pupils


6. Pipeline management

Manage new business opportunities through the sales process and pipeline
Use CRM to record all prospects and leads and correspondence relating to both existing and new customers & partners
Maintain up to date sales forecasts against plan targets
You will need…

At least 2 years sales or business development experience, ideally within international markets
An interest in languages and international business, ideally conversant in Spanish
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to quickly build rapport and relationships at a local and international level
To be strongly self-motivated and able to operate independently
To be willing to travel internationally for up to 10 weeks of the year
To be flexible and agile, able to work closely with the rest of the team
To be driven and goal orientated, staying focussed on delivery of growth to defined targets
To be familiar with use of CRM systems and able to effectively manage a pipeline of new business opportunities
What we are offering…

Salary of £22,000 - £24,000 per year, dependent on experience
Annual incentive plan linked to delivery of business plan targets
