Our Story
Starting out as a small family business - Ardmore was founded in 1984 David Walker, working from a small cabin with just one client - today, Ardmore is one of the biggest providers of junior courses in the business and has offices near London and in New York City. In 2018, Ardmore became part of Cognita, an educational group with over ninety schools in 13 different countries, which has further expanded Ardmore’s global footprint and career opportunities for our staff.

Despite the growth and success that Ardmore has achieved over the years, we have always maintained our identity as a closely-knit family business. More importantly, we are proud of the reputation we have earned for delivering high-quality courses for juniors. The Role
The Operations Manager’s key responsibility is to ensure the high standards of all areas of programme delivery for the organisation. This includes the management of both permanent and seasonal members of the operations team, ensuring that all courses are operated to the British Council standards. This diverse and exciting role will give the candidate the opportunity to enhance their commercial, operational, recruitment, and financial skills within the business.  The role is a full-time, permanent position with with hybrid working between remote and office based in Maidenhead, with a requirement to travel to all centres in the UK.

Outline of Key Responsibilities

  • Be the Designated Safeguarding Lead & Prevent Lead
  • Be the main person responsible for the emergency phone
  • Management of the overall operational logistics for Ardmore Language Schools (ALS)
  • Ensuring all programmes are delivered to a high standard, above the British Council guidelines
  • Screening, interviewing, managing, and training the Operations Team (Operations Executives, Regional Managers, Academic Director, Assistant Academic Director)
  • Line managing two Regional Managers (RM)
  • Creating monthly forecasts of costs per centre to ensure courses are delivered within budget
  • Dealing with any issues/complaints with agents/host centres
  • Delivering training to seasonal managers to ensure all standards are communicated and understood
  • Liaising with Centre Management staff over the delivery of the courses
  • Liaising with different suppliers to ensure all coaching, entrances, and all other suppliers are booked and audited
  • This includes the need to review, negotiate and tender prices regularly
  • Liaising with RM’s to complete appraisals and references for Centre Directors
  • Liaising with the Recruitment team to assist with staffing issues
  • Managing third party relations with suppliers and host centres
  • Ensuring KPI’s are being met by each member of the Operations Team
  • Completing regular centre visits (two per centre) and liaising with the Operations Team
  • Helping to ensure that Ardmore Language School’s Health and Safety policies are implemented and adhered to at all times
  • Contributing to our aim for continual improvements, providing ideas to and liaising with the Senior Management Team

  • Willingness to undertake appropriate training and assessment is essential

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working in a language school, school holiday camp or hospitality environment
  • A full driving licence and access to a car is desirable but not essential
  • Previous management experience
  • Experience of interacting with international students or living in another country
