Trusted by universities and governments around the world, the Pearson Test of English is quickly becoming the leading high-stakes computer-based test of English for study abroad and immigration. The expanding team requires a self-starter with exceptional leadership capabilities to work across the education and government sectors on a test recognition and business development program for Canada. The Director will be required to work with partner organizations, both internal and external, to raise the profile of PTE and related testing products and services, ultimately positioning Pearson as the provider of choice for English Language assessment solutions and services. Additionally, the Director of PTE will work collaboratively with global and local sales, marketing and product teams to provide input into strategies and initiatives designed to drive demand for the test.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the local execution of an agreed global strategy to gain test recognition by government and immigration authorities, academic institutions and professional associations within Canada, including building and maintaining stakeholder relationships, and gathering and interpreting market intelligence.
  • Build and manage strategic relationships with multiple stakeholders including immigration and education professionals, associations & networks, proactively positioning PTE and related products and services while expanding brand and product awareness.
  • Achieve test recognition growth targets.
  • Showcase Pearson’s PTE and related products and services at industry conferences, forums and events.
  • Provide support to academic institutions, associations and strategic partners through the organization of workshops and seminars on English language testing.
  • Collaborate with global sales, marketing and product development teams to provide input into global campaigns and initiatives.
  • Search and evaluate opportunities for establishing strategic partnerships with key universities and associations.
  • Keep informed about developments within international education, competitor activity and within the language testing industry.
  • The role will require 40% travel in Canada to meet with stakeholders and attend events and, occasionally, also overseas to meet with the Global Product team based in London, UK.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • One direct report.


Qualifications

  • 5 years of previous business development, and/or sales experience gained in the English Language Assessment market coupled with experience working with government departments and delivering government contracts. Senior level experience working within a university or admissions/recruitment office will also be considered an asset.
  • University Degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly and effectively to target audiences. Highly developed oral, written and presentation skills.
  • Evidence of success in building stakeholder relationships for commercial benefit.
  • Experience navigating complex decision making.
  • Good influencing skills with the ability to convince through personal credibility.
  • Proven sales success.
  • Determined/driven, proactive.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Thrives in an agile, changing environment.
  • Ability to travel 40% of the time with occasional overseas travel.
  • Computer literate & able to use a CRM system.
