What will the Head of Employability be trying to solve?

  • Alumni support and resource for enhanced post-program employability support
  • Professional development support for all Coaches and Intern Experience Managers
  • Lead for expert webinar series and delivery
  • Support of Chief Academic Officer in increasing participant employment confidence and success
  • Act as guide for all intern coaching best practices and supports
  • Establish coaching flow and process for most impact
  • Solve the logistical conundrum that results from scheduling 1000+ calls across 10+ coaches
  • Build coaching resources to support all contract coaches
  • Review coaching process and implementation to increase delivery efficiency

 

How many interns will I be supporting?

  • In 2020 Virtual Internships supported 1600+ students and plan to triple our numbers for 2021
  • Interns come from around the world, with our 2020 alumni representing over 150 different universities from the US, UK, EU, MENA, and APAC regions.

 

What is the end goal of providing coaching?

  • Virtual Internships strives to increase post-program employment confidence and success. To that measure we want to give participants access to step above their day-to-day internship experience and conduct guided conversations with interns to enhance their goal setting and career management skills.
  • All interns are able to schedule two coaching sessions, one during and the other after their internship.

 

How will we engage Alumni?

  • Virtual Internships has built over 2500 alumni over 3 years with the number set to double in 2021. Ensuring we keep our Alumni engaged to offer additional support, discover outcomes and data, and increase our employee network will be extremely important. 
  • Alumni engagement requires investment of time and resources to implement creative supports and communication for long-term engagement. Currently we engage Alumni through 6 month report check-ins, invitation to expert webinar series and more.

 

How big is the Employability team?

  • The team will consist of 1 full-time team member with potential for 1 additional full-time staff and 10+ coaching contract staff.

 

What does success look like in 3 months time?

  • Complete ownership and delivery of the Global Expert Series, with a calendar of events planned 6 weeks in advance.
  • Planned professional development training for internal program supporters
  • Hiring and onboarding of 7 Intern Coaches

 

What does success look like in 6 months time?

  • Successful cohesive training plan for all new team members
  • Positive feedback from all interns exceeding 85% of caseload
  • Full ownership of coaching staff and subsequent training
  • Completion of a career coach certification if not already completed
  • Introduction of a coaching training plan for all interested staff
  • Implementation of bi-annual Alumni outcome report

 

Skills You Will Need

  • Ability to convey complex information to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Experience supporting student professional development
  • Understanding of coaching best practices
  • Empathy and understanding of professional development challenges 
  • Experience working in a Startup environment: “thriving in chaos, but working towards structure”

Some Basic Requirements

  • Fluent English language skills (you don’t need an IELTS, but if you did it would be 7.0+)
  • 2+ Year supporting education or professional development services
  • Interest in experiential learning, professional development, employability, or higher education
  • Experience mentoring or coaching students
