The UWC International Relations office is responsible for promoting and supporting the establishment of scholarly international relations for the university. IRO provides a liaison and facilitation service for advancing strategic partnerships for the university. Part of the UWC International Relations office’s focus is on promoting capacity-building opportunities through international mobility for staff and students. The IRO can be consulted on establishing international partnerships and connecting with networks and mobility opportunities for staff and students. 

The IRO has an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual who will be reporting to the Director: International Relations. The Manager: International Relations supports the efforts of UWC’s Internationalisation Project by providing integrated management and administration related to the Internationalisation Project.  The key performance areas of the incumbent include the following: 

  • Coordinating IRO’s internationalisation project as it pertains to assistance with and advising on international Academic Partnerships, externally funded projects and management of the international partnerships
  • Assuming primary responsibility for the administration of international research, teaching and learning, and exchange opportunities for UWC academics, as well as the logistics and programmes for visiting academics
  • Coordinating and supporting the international grant-funded mobility projects including EU, DAAD and other donor-funded programmes
  • Ensuring compliance with requirements of sponsorship of projects by international donors administered by the IRO 
  • Acting as Secretary for the Senate International Relations Committee and its sub-committee responsible for assessing exchange agreements 
  • Alerting the Director to the possible renewal of international scholarship and exchange agreements 
  • Assist the Director in managing the human and financial resources of the International Relations office. 

Minimum Requirements (Qualification and Experience)

  • A recognised postgraduate degree or an Equivalent qualification at an NQF level 8
  • At least 5 years' relevant experience in International Relations Administration. 
  • At least 3 years' relevant management experience
  • Experience in Higher Education or equivalent settings is highly recommended

Required competencies (skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes)

  • Sound Project and Financial Management Skills. 
  • Planning, co-ordination and implementations skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and according to externally driven deadlines.
  • The preferred candidate for this position should be committed to good customer service, demonstrate excellent people skills, be a sound administrator and value working in a fast-paced, diverse environment
  • A team player with demonstrable leadership, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
